Friday Movie Review - Blackbeard's Ghost

Arrr, Me Kitties! It do be MEOW LIKE A PIRATE DAY!

In honor of this fine occasion, I have chosen to do a review about one of the fiercest pirates of them all: Blackbeard!

Blackbeard's Ghost (1968)
Directed By:Robert Stevenson
Written By: Bill Walsh
Don DaGradi

In this Disney family classic Dean Jones is Steve Walker, a college track coach who has just accepted a position at Godolphin College. When he arrives at his boardinghouse, he finds a fundraiser in full swing to save the old house, which was once the home of none other than Blackbeard himself! His and his crew's descendents, a bunch of nice 'little old ladies,' are about to lose the historic home if they can't raise enough money to pay the bank. In a moment of kindness, spurred on by some shady gangster characters seated in the back of the auction, as well as the charm of a lovely auctioneer (Jo Anne Baker played by Suzanne Pleshette), Steve bids on and wins a bedwarmer, owned by a former wife of Blackbeard. Not only was she a former wife of the infamous pirate, but it seems she was accused of being a witch as well! When Steve gets to his room later, he accidentally breaks the handle and finds what appears to be a spellbook. Thinking it is all in fun, he reads a spell . . . and finds himself face to face with Blackbeard himself!

Now that do be a fierce lookin' pirate, am I right, mateys?

It seems that Steve is stuck with Blackbeard, unless the spell can be broken . . . and the only way the spell can be broken is for Blackbeard to manage to do at least one good deed! This is very hard for a fierce and selfish pirate such as Blackbeard . . . can he do it? Or will Steve have a pirate for a roommate forever?

I do be givin' "Blackbeard's Ghost" two paws up and a swash of me buckle for being good fun for the whole crew, cabin kits and Capn's alike!
