Tigger's Big Birthday Bash!

Happy Thursday, Everykitty! Don't forget to drop by the M-Cats Club today for Mr. Tigger's Surprise Birthday/Gotcha Day Party! We have all sorts of yummy treats, and nip beverages for the mature kitty. I'll be bartending all day, and the special is my World Famous Niptini, but we also have Meowgaritas and Mother's Milk as well. (Just for you, Skeezix!)

I'm looking forward to seeing all of my friends and having at least one dance with my sweet tuxie princess Samantha. Holly and Ivy are wearing their party hats and are super excited. I'm glad they didn't tell Mr. Tigger the big secret! Holly and Ivy are both saving dances for their special friend Cody, and Holly is looking forward to sharing a niptini with Kashim, while Ivy is hoping Java is able to come so they can practice the bunny hop that Lando Bun taught her on Valentine's Day. Holly: You want to know why?

Ivy: Because our brother was trying to keep a secret from us! But thanks to the catblogosphere (and my mad email hacking skillz) we found out about Mr. Tigger's Party at the M-Cat Club!

Holly: Yeah, Tybalt! You thought you could keep us away, but too bad, fluffy boy! We know all about the surprise party for Mr. Tigger that you and Samantha and Kashim and Othello are planning! I can't believe you didn't know Kashim would tell me. Or that Ivy would get into your email!

Ivy: Yeah, Tibbles, you should know better than to leave your password lying around! Ha ha ha! So now the Tortie Twins are all set to PARTY!!!!!!

Holly: Remember, everykitty! The big surprise birthday party for Mr. Tigger is Thursday, May 15th at the M-Cats Club!

Ivy: I hope the rest of our tortie sisters come!

Holly: Yeah, just let those mancats try to kick the torties out of the club after midnight!

***Weather Update***

For those of you who were nice enough to worry about me and ask, yes, we weathered (ha ha!) out the horrible storms over the weekend well. On Saturday afternoon, mommy made all of us furry babies and Almost Dad get down in the basement/garage because there was a tornado coming our way. Luckily it never touched down in our area, but Holly and I were still scared and cried and cried. Even a grown up 2 year old mancat can be scared sometimes. Ivy and the doggies just played in the basement and explored. They weren't bothered a bit. Mommy saw how scared Holly and I were and put us in the car to sit with her and Almost Dad, and we calmed down and even took a little nap. Thanks for checking on us, everykitty! (That was some birthday I had. Thanks, Mother Nature!)

Friday Movie Review - 300

For those of you who don't know, I am a proud member of Mr. Tigger's new M-Cats Club! I am dedicating this Friday's movie review to all of my fellow mancats.

300 (2006)

Based on the Graphic Novel by Frank Miller

Now, let me go on the record as saying that this is not a movie for kittens or even for M-Cats-in-training. There is a lot of graphic violence and themes that more mature cats may not find suitable for the kits.

For those of you who don't know, "300" is based on actual events in ancient Greek history: the Battle of Thermopylae between the Spartans and the invading Persians. While the movie certainly contains some sensationalism and anachronisms, it still gets across the gist of what happened in this pivotal battle. "300" has managed to serve as a reminder of how past wars and politics are eerily echoed in the world we know today. It also is a stirring account of how a small group of men were able to stand against the might of an entire invading army . . . and almost win.

"300" has a riveting storyline, which depicts political intrigue, religious corruption, bravery, romance, and epic battles. There is something in it for almost anyone. It also has a wonderful use of music, light, and color, which serves to give the entire film a unique appearance and feel. The filmmakers made a concerted effort to echo the dramatic artistry shown in the original graphic novel, even down to the costumes worn by the actors, and they succeeded. This film is an intriguing blend of live-action and computer generation. It is truly a wonder to watch.

From my earlier description, and my initial dedication, you may think that is movie is only for mancats. This isn't so. For example, my mommy loves the film for its subject matter (she was a history/anthropology major in undergrad), its unique style, and for Gerard Butler and what she terms his "8-pack abs." Holly and Ivy appreciate it for all of the big animals the Persian army has . . . they particularly like the elephants. And who can deny the appeal of fervently shouted lines such as "This is SPARTAAAAAAAAA!" and "TONIGHT WE DINE IN HELL!"

I definitely recommend this as a film worth viewing for more mature cats, who don't mind a lot of violence. Also, the elite Persian forces wear masks which might be a bit skairty for a few kitties. However, if you don't mind these things, or a bit of human nudity, then you should give this film a try. I give this film two paws up for its artisty and unique style.
